(Chuck_Bergman) First, I would like to thank Cammy for such a wonderful introduction. I would also like to express thanks to James Van Praagh for inviting me to be guest speaker tonight. It is amazing to see so many friends that I have met along the way in this chat room tonight. Thank you for coming!
Welcome to those who are here tonight to learn about mediumship and how to receive a reading from a medium.
Every person has psychic awareness. The level of psychic awareness is different from person to person. It is essential to realize that you cannot develop or refine ANY skill overnight. There are many tools available on this website to assist in spiritual development, including this chat room.
Have you ever had a hunch or feeling that you didn't listen to, and wish you had later? Mediumship can be that subtle at times. You have to go with what you feel.
Locating a meditation group in your area, is another good step towards developing your intuitive abilities. Also finding a Spiritualist church is a good way to meet people with like interests. Most can be found on the web at: http://www.nsac.org
New Wave bookstores carry fliers, and are a great source for locating development circles and seminars in your area.
When you sit with a group to develop your abilities, it is important that the energy is correct for you. You will know if it is right with only a visit or two. Conversely your energy will affect the group. Peace and tranquility may not always be obtainable during meditation so learn how to connect to your inner self, even in an environment that is distracting.
The most common question I get from people is, 'how do I turn off my inner chatter?' I wish there was a switch to do that! I've spent one and a half years going to a meditation group twice a week with the focus on turning off the chatter. It is like going to a party and trying to tune out unwanted conversations. You have to be quiet to hear the inner voice, or to see symbols and images being shown.
Early on I spent time tracking down where I thought my chatter would enter my mind. Things like, 'did I pay the electric bill', 'what's for dinner', 'I need to scratch my arm'. Then I would imagine attaching a volume control to that area in my head. Next I would slowly turn down the volume. That visual would help me to ignore my unrelenting chatter. Then in this tranquility I could search for other thoughts in higher areas of my mind. Next I focused on the new found material and how do I get to that area when I need to.
Messages come in as subtle thoughts that you had no reason to think about. With time you will learn to distinguish your own thoughts from actual messages. During a reading if I hear it or see it, then I say it. When you get an image, tune in to your feelings to see how you feel about what you are getting. Such as I'm seeing a watch but, I 'feel' like it is not working, or it is special. Try and 'see' if the watch is gold or silver. Usually there is a reason that something is being shown to you.
Finding a good medium is key to having a successful reading. Remember, it really is a three-way communication! It requires equal cooperation from the receiver, the medium and the one in spirit. How much information should you give up to a medium during a reading?
During a reading, the consciousness of a medium is receptive to the subtle energy spirit, and also to you. If you give dull answers, you will probably get a dull reading. If you answer a question and use the name of the person being contacted, the medium will pick up on that too. Do you want validations or do you want to hear messages from your loved one? I like giving a message then follow that with validations such as a family members birth date. Things the medium would have no way of knowing.
Be careful how much information you include in correspondence such as in emails to a medium. It is okay to let the medium know that you are looking for communication with a parent, spouse, sibling or child.
If during a successful reading information no longer fits, consider that a new spirit may be coming in. Always welcome them. Thank them at the end of a session.
Allow time to pass before having another reading. You should be in a better state of mind and feel more connected after a reading. The effects of a good reading will last a lifetime.....
(CAMMY_WebAdmin) Chuck...A lot of questions that are being submitted for you tonight are people wanting more specific information on ways to develop...like meditation tapes, or meditation itself. Can you talk further on that?
(Chuck_Bergman) Sure....... Meditation tapes are an excellent source. It is a good idea to listen to them more than once. Perhaps you should set time aside each day... At those times, burn some incense to help relax you. I like 'nag champa', myself.
JVP has quite a few excellent meditation tapes. There are two ways to use the tapes. Either purchase guided meditations, or you may like to listen to drum music. I know that it is very important this each and every day, in the beginning of your development. Practice is the key.
Also, making time with a development circle is important. Some of the people in the group may be more advanced, and can critique your communications, offer insights, or just encourage you when you feel out of touch. I hope that helps.
(CAMMY_WebAdmin) Chuck, for some who may not understand...can you explain what you do in a development circle??
(Chuck_Bergman) Yes....... A small group of people meet at the same time every week. One person moderates the group. We begin with an opening prayer of thanks, stating our highest intention of good. Incense is burned and relaxing music sets a positive tone. We begin a guided meditation, where the instructor takes us through a journey. After the meditation we share messages with each other, giving time to validate communications, and offer insight to each other. Does that help?
(CAMMY_WebAdmin) Yes...and Chuck, if you would...what is your opinion of 'in-person' development groups as opposed to some 'online' development groups that may be found?
(Chuck_Bergman) In person groups bring people closer, so you know who you are working with. Trust is very important to this process.
(CAMMY_WebAdmin) A spiritual safety sort-of-thing then.......
(Chuck_Bergman) Yes, very true Cammy.
(CAMMY_WebAdmin) And with regards to receiving information, do you have any exercises or techniques you used to use when you were developing, that would help you to TRUST what you were receiving?
(Chuck_Bergman) Yes...... First, I had to trust myself and the members of my group. Sometimes we would put pictures in envelopes, pass them around, and try to feel what the picture was of, amazing how accurate some people were!
(CAMMY_WebAdmin) I'll have to try that one...haa. Sounds fun!!
(Chuck_Bergman) We would also try this same type of technique with jewelry...
(CAMMY_WebAdmin) Yes...psychometry.....

(Liane) In my living room my lights go dim and flicker by themselves and lately I hear lots of noises...like popping and clicking when I lay in bed, also I feel something on top of my head...like a swirling around feeling, feels good...could this be somebody I know, and how will I know who it is?
(Chuck_Bergman) Hi, Liane.

(Chuck_Bergman) It's always safe to ask. If you want them to leave, you may ask them.....
(Liane) I am still a little afraid lol
(Chuck_Bergman) ....conversely, if you enjoy the presence, try meditation in that room. If you feel uneasy, ask the presence to leave.

(Twin) I just went to see a spiritual medium this past Sunday and it was successful. If I would go again in a months time, do you think it would go as well? Should I wait a longer period of time?

(Chuck_Bergman) I find that repeats are sometimes better than the original. Harder for the medium because he has to validate new information, but also...
(Twin) My brother has only been gone about 2 1/2 months....
(Chuck_Bergman) ....give yourself time to enjoy the events of the last meeting. His energy must be very strong to come through as it did so early. I am glad you were able to communicate.

(Chuck_Bergman) I have heard many stories from people..... that animals are influenced by our loved ones, and we always know when to connect the animal to our loved one.
(kate) When my best friend passed and I visited where her ashes had been spread, and upon saying a silent prayer to her, two birds came out of nowhere.
(Chuck_Bergman) If your intuition says that it is the person you know, then trust what you feel. Does that help Kate?

(JESS_JBH) Psychic abilities have crossed through many generations in my family and over the past years, I've dreamt about Sept. 11 before it happened, and did automatic writing with boy who died in a car accident(my friend's friend). The automatic writing still happens. Why?
(Chuck_Bergman) Hi Jess. Everybody has this ability. However it may be stronger in certain families. For example, my cousin is also a medium. She helped to open me up. If you already have a firmly established ability, you should try to cultivate that ability. Does that help Jess?

(Chuck_Bergman) The important part. Your Chakra’s should be clean and open. If they are blocked, communication will be blocked as well. There are special tapes you can purchase on Chakra opening. I found them to be very helpful with mediumship.
(Liberty) I will look for some then. How does one go about clearing the chakra’s?
(Chuck_Bergman) One would picture light going through the Chakra.

(Chuck_Bergman) This is another phenomenon people report. Not sure if it is an outside source, or self-conditioning. Try guessing the time on your watch before looking at it... see if you are accurate.

(Chuck_Bergman) Then enjoy the comfort it has to offer... as I mentioned earlier, feelings are important as well as the image.

(Chuck_Bergman) Excellent question, Pattycake. People need time to grieve the loss of a loved one, and need to understand that they have left this side of life. One good reading should have lasting effects..... the message is always the same anyway... that they are around us sharing love. Does that answer your question?
